User Experience Case Study

Optimizing LinkedIn Job Search Usability for College Students

Project Overview

LinkedIn is the premiere website/application for potential job seekers, and approximately 28% of the user base consists of college students aged 18 to 24 (source). However, companies such as Handshake and Indeed pose fierce competition in the market of college-aged consumers. To figure out ways for LinkedIn to stay competitive, I decided to conduct usability tests to uncover issues and suggest ways to improve the user experience for aspiring college young professionals.

Conclusion

In this project, I was able to go through the full sprint of the User Experience Research Process. I really learned about the ins-and-outs of constructing research proposal, designing usability test tasks, writing interview questions, and getting in touch with the test subjects. More importantly, after putting myself in the shoes of a product-minded researcher, I learned the importance to look at the bigger picture and have a good product sense to translate the observations into helpful insights.
